Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer crisis services?
No. I do not provide 24/7 crisis services, emergency care, or on-call support. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency or feel unsafe, please contact local emergency services or a crisis line right away.If you are an established client, we can talk together about appropriate supports and create a safety plan that includes crisis resources outside of sessions. My practice is best suited for ongoing, scheduled therapy rather than crisis intervention. Please refer to my Crisis Resources page for services.
Do you work with high-conflict dynamics?
I do not provide therapy or coaching in situations involving ongoing intimate partner violence (IPV), domestic abuse (DA), or coercive control (CC). These dynamics require specialized, safety-focused interventions and resources beyond the scope of my practice.
If you are experiencing abuse or feel unsafe in your relationship, support is available. I encourage you to reach out to a local domestic violence advocacy organization or crisis service for confidential support and safety planning. Please refer to my Crisis Resources page for services.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling as a courtesy to participants on the waitlist. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice, or missed without notice, are charged the full session fee after one complimentary missed appointment has been used.
Do you offer court-involved or forensic services?
No. I do not provide court-involved or forensic services, including evaluations, custody recommendations, expert testimony, or documentation for legal proceedings. My work is strictly therapeutic and non-evaluative, and I do not participate in roles that require assessment for the court or alignment with legal outcomes.
This boundary helps protect the integrity of the therapeutic relationship, keeping therapy focused on care, privacy, and healing rather than legal scrutiny. If I am legally required to provide information via subpoena, I will comply as required by law.
Do you work with neurodivergent clients?
Yes! I love working with neurodivergent clients and approach neurodivergence through a neurodiversity paradigm rather than a pathology-based model. This means I view neurological differences as natural forms of human variation, not deficits to be fixed.
In our work, we may still name diagnoses when useful or necessary, but they are not the center of treatment. Instead, therapy focuses on understanding your nervous system, reducing harm from misfit environments, increasing self-advocacy, and supporting ways of living that are aligned with who you are.
How do I get started? Do you offer consultations?
I offer a free 15 minute consultation in-person or virtual. Please schedule through my Participant Portal.
Where are you located?
Lookout Mountain Psychotherapy is located in the Bellingham Towers across the street from the Mount Baker Theatre. The office is in an ADA-accessible building with an elevator and accessible restrooms. Hourly parking is available in the adjacent lot as well as on the street, and the office is conveniently located across the street from a bus stop for easy public transit access.
How long does therapy usually last?
Because I work outside the insurance model, our work is not constrained to a standard one-hour format. We can talk together about what structure best fits your needs, goals, and capacity, including longer sessions or therapy intensives when appropriate.
As for how long you’ll be in therapy overall, that truly depends. It depends on the depth and focus of our work, what you’re hoping to address, and how your needs evolve over time. Some people work with me for a shorter, more focused period; others engage in deeper, longer-term work. I generally find that after a few years of working together, I have likely shared most of what I am able to offer, and we reassess what continued support would look like, or whether it’s time to transition or pause.
Because I believe humans are best understood in relationship, I ask individual clients to include at least one relational session within the first year of our work together. This session does not need to involve a conflictual relationship. It may include a partner, friend, family member, coworker, or another trusted person who can help add relational context and depth to my understanding of you and your emotional world.
This is not about evaluation or taking sides, but rather supporting with more nuanced, grounded, and effective care.
We’ll revisit these questions collaboratively along the way.
Are sliding-scale fees available? Do you accept insurance?
Please visit my Payment Options page for an explanation of the Green Bottle Method. I am NOT currently paneled with any insurance and services are entirely private pay.
Do you provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement?
No. I do not provide superbills or participate in insurance reimbursement. While I do not work directly with insurance companies, providing superbills still requires assigning and sharing a mental health diagnosis and engaging with insurance systems. This is not aligned with my values or how I practice.
My work is private pay by design. This allows us to prioritize your privacy, dignity, and the complexity of your lived experience, rather than shaping care around diagnostic or insurance requirements.
